Q - What are Squirrel® fixings ?
A Squirrel® fixing is a threaded insert that allows a variety of items including legs, hinges, framework,
hanging rails and undermount sinks to be fixed securely to the Corian® without over stressing the material.
Q - How are they made ?
Squirrel® fixings have two components a stainless steel threaded insert and a Corian® outer.
They are both machined from solid stock using CNC machinery.
Q- What sizes are available ?
Currently we produce M3, M4, M6 & M8.
( M3 are not usually in stock, but are available by special order.)
Q – How much are they ?
They are priced as a single Squirrel® which consists of one insert and one Corian® outer, please see our pricelist page for quantity breaks.
Q – How can I order the Squirrel® fixings?
Please go to our online order form and email us your requirements.
Q- Are they available from Stock ?
Yes, in Glacier White Corian® , if you would like another colour please allow 10 days for production of special orders.
Q – Is the Squirrel® fixing visible through Glacier White Corian® ?
No, not if they are installed correctly to a depth of 8mm. The Squirrel® may be visible through some of the more translucent colours.
The following colours have translucent properties and the Squirrel® Fixings will be slightly visible through the Corian®:
Abalone, Arctic Ice, Blueberry Ice, Glacier Ice, Ice White, Lime Ice, Mint Ice, Strawberry Ice, Sun.
Beach Glass, Cameo White and Seagrass will also show through unless extra care is given with the depth set into the Corian®.
Please be sure to leave 4.5mm of material and coat the flat part of the metal insert with either white enamel paint or a white sticker will suffice.
Q- Can I have any Corian® colour ?
Yes – the minimum order quantity for specials is 15.
Q- Do you have distrbutors in the other countries?

Q – What tests have been carried out
The Squirrel® fixing was tested by FIRA International Ltd for withdrawal strength test in March 2004 – full details upon request –
FIRA’s comments were: 'Withdrawal strength values were high at 4500 N (approximately 450kgf or 1000lbsf) and hence the Squirrel® inserts should generally provide
a sound anchorage point'.
Q – Do I need a CNC machine to be able to fit these Squirrel® fixings
No a CNC is not necessary, the holes for the Squirrel® s can be made with a hand held router and a cutter
such as a Titman M2025 on a ˝” shank with a 20mm diameter and a length of 25mm. You can order a Squirrel® jig
for positioning of the Squirrel® s for Corian® doors etc. if you need one.
The other side of the same jig can be used to cut holes into the side of a Corian® unit to take cabinet hinge plates supplied with the Squirrel®
hinge system.
Q- I understand that Corian® doors can be made from 12mm material using the Squirrel® fixing, what hinge do I use ?
We use a Blum hinge that has been adapted with their permission and is precision machined specifically to accept the Squirrel® ,
these are available through McD Marketing.
Q- Wall cladding - how far apart should I put the Squirrel® fixings?
In theory one Squirrel® will hold up an entire sheet of Corian® but we would recommend you place the fixing no more than 600mm apart to contain any flex in a sheet.
Q- Which adhesive should I use ?
Always use Corian® adhesive when installing the Squirrel® fixings.
Q- Can you use the Squirrel® hinge for in frame or overlay doors ?
Yes no problem !
Q - How do I work out how many Squirrel® hinges I need for different size Corian® doors?
Corian® 12mm sheet material is 24 kilos per square metre,
Guide of weight of Corian® / hinges required:
- 4 - 6 kgs - 2 Squirrel® fixing hinges
- 7 - 12kgs - 3 Squirrel® fixing hinges
- 13 - 17 kgs - 4 Squirrel® fixing hinges
- 18 - 22 kgs - 5 Squirrel® fixing hinges
